Director and curator, Meta.Morf –Trondheim international biennale for art & technology / Trondheim internasjonale biennale for kunst & teknologi, 2010 – present.

Meta.Morf – Biennale for art & technology – Trondheim.

From annually arranging Trondheim Matchmaking since 2002, we started in 2007 to play with the idea of making the festival a biennale to ensure a more in depth production for hopefully through the extra year between events, being able to raise the quality level of presented projects as well as expanding the festival’s program. A major ambition was as well to engage more of Trondheim’s cultural operators and to reach a broader audience.

To help develop the biennale we engaged a reference board in 2007 that consisted of:

Alex Adriaansens, Director, V2_ og DEAF, Rotterdam
Clive Kellner, Director, Johannesburg Art Gallery, South Africa
Jemima Rellie, Vice president, Comms & public prog., Getty Conservation Institute, L.A.
Jeremy Welsh, Professor, Trondheim Academy of Fine Art
Zhang Ga, Curator, Media Art China, The Chinese International Art Museum, Beijing

Alex Adriaansens has ever since worked as curator/ consultant for the biennale.

After the first arranged biennale in 2010, named Meta.Morf, the Trondheim Municipalities decided it to be the city’s official art festival, and Trondheim city is now Meta.Morf’s major sponsor after the Arts Council Norway.

Artistic and scientific research are continuously part of challenging and changing our perspectives on life, often implying new philosophical and existential questions.

Biotechnology, nanotechnology, neuroscience and new communications and computer technologies represent fields that expand the boundaries of artistic practices. Practices that in turn may reveal unexplored viewpoints for scientifically based research.

Meta.Morf shall present artists, musicians, writers and researchers for a broader audience with projects and performances that in various ways helps extending our perspectives on life, and beyond.
